Last summer it was the dragonfly that kept appearing in all kinds of significant and insignificant moments. The message in this animal totem is:
Dragonfly is the essence of the winds of change…call on Dragonfly to guide you through the mists of illusion to the pathway of transformation…think in terms of two year periods when you begin a change.
Dragonfly has remained an important symbol for me, as my hosting work is also about the winds of change. And interesting about the two year period of transformation. This fall marks the end of a two year period of stepping across the threshold into my hosting journey but it doesn’t feel over yet!
In the past few weeks a different animal has appeared a few times – having never seen one before: the hummingbird. One appeared just shortly before I got the news that my grandmother had passed.
I think there might be a message for me in this hummingbird visitor, of discovering a fierceness in my work. This theme appeared for me in June through an experience with Transformational Breath. The ability to be deeply present, ready to tap into a fierce energy when needed. This is definitely a learning edge for me; to wield my sword with kindness as they say in Warrior of the Heart.
Hummingbirds teach us fierce independence. They teach us to fight in a way where no one really gets hurt. They teach us simple courage. Hummingbirds awaken us to the beauty of the present moment. As they dance the four quarters of embodied existence, they bring us medicine to solve the riddle of duality.

Dear Amanda,
The journey of transformation shows up in its own way no matter how much we might want it to be our way. And, for whatever reason I cannot quite fathom, it seems to take it’s good old time. Which is maybe why I use the language of deepening in – there are ever more ways to deepen in from wherever we are, whatever level of depth we currently touched. One of my biggest revelations was to surrender in to the journey and it has become much more joyful as a result. Lovely to read your reflections here. I feel connected to you in journey and I look forward to when our paths will cross in the physical world. Kathy
