Siblings

One of the silver linings of the trek back to Saskatchewan was seeing my siblings. One is in north eastern Alberta with my awesome sister-in-law, one was in Calgary (soon to be Washington DC) and my other sister is here in Vancouver. As we’ve grown into our adult lives we don’t get the chance to be all together that often, but whenever we do it’s so nice to see each other and re-connect.

My siblings are great teachers of mine… from helping me see my older-sister-bossiness patterns, learning compassion and support through our life’s journeys (even when I might have chosen differently), having the mirror held up when I’ve held on too tightly to my opinion, learning when to step in, when to butt out, checking in when times are tough and times are good, apologizing when I haven’t been great at any of this, and loving each other with all our glorious differences and similarities.

Siblings are the people we practice on, the people who teach us about fairness and cooperation and kindness and caring–quite often the hard way. ~ Pamela Dugdale
