In March I went to Cirque du Soleil. Bucket list item crossed off! In the days that led up to performance night I reflected: why this was worthy of my bucket list? My fascination with Cirque began not from an entertainment perspective but from the talent lens. I recall reading an article about retirement in the workplace and how Cirque had programs to help performers still in their 30s(!) retire from the show – what a unique challenge. And then I serendipitously discovered Cirque du Soleil: The Spark, an inspiring read by John Howard. Every one of my favourite excerpts still resonates with me today. It’s a book I highly recommend.
So what about the show?
I loved the show. I loved the incredible talents, the jaw-dropping feats, the theatrics and music and the interaction with the crowd. Who could have imagined that yours truly would have ended up on stage in a fun-tastic improv performance?! Yup. I got to be part of the spark that night.
